Treat Yo’ Self: 7 Ways To Practice Self Care In West LA

Treat Yo’ Self: 7 Ways To Practice Self Care In West LA

  |     |   Uncategorized

Sometimes we get so wrapped up and working, studying, socializing, and doing things for others that we don't realize we're burning ourselves out. If it's been a while since you've done something nice for yourself, pencil in one of these self-care practices into your calendar and schedule some intentional you time:

Get Your Workout On

One way to take care of yourself is to intentionally move your body. This could look like a walk on the beach, a group exercise class with friends, taking a bike ride through the city, practicing yoga on the beach, or spending an hour in your apartment’s fitness center. If you really want some motivation, head down to muscle beach and work out amongst serious athletes. If you want something a little more low-key, consider a solo run around the gorgeous UCLA campus.

Buy Yourself A Book (Or Five)

If it's been a while since you've lost yourself in a good book, LA has many bookstores that can solve this problem for you. Schedule some time in your afternoon to browse one of the many local bookstores, pick up a few books from your favorite author (and maybe an author you've never heard of) and find a good spot to lose track of time.

If you're on a budget, many used bookstores sell hardback and paperback books for discounted rates. Buy yourself a few books from your want-to-read list, or if you're really trying to keep costs low, head into the local library, get a library card and have instant access to all of your favorites.

Browse Art By Yourself

There's no shortage of museums and art galleries in the LA area. While browsing and discussing art can be great things to do with friends, it's a completely different experience when you're by yourself. When you take yourself to an art gallery or museum, you can browse at your own pace and can appreciate the art in silence. This is a great form of self-care for those who feel like they're stuck in a rut and haven't been feeling creative, artsy, or inspired lately.

Get Your Hair Done

When you look good, you feel good. Getting your hair, nails, or skin done can be a great way to boost your confidence and take care of yourself. From local salons to celebrity stylists, there are many ways to pamper yourself in the city. If you want the celebrity treatment, schedule a treatment at Mare Salon, where the windows are paparazzi-proof to allow its A-list clientele to get pampered in private.

Treat Yourself To A Massage

Nothing says self-care like a professional massage. Treat your tired and achy muscles to an Earthy massage at The Now, or experience a Thai or traditional Swedish massage at Blossom Spa Hollywood. For something a little different, try The Massage Garage, an auto-shop-inspired, no-frills massage parlor that gives all the benefits of a massage without the fluff. If you’re ready to go all out, give The Spa at Terranea a try. It’s luxurious, glitzy, and where the who’s who of Hollywood go for pampering. This 5,000-square-foot waterfront oasis is a little slice of tropical paradise in the middle of the bustling city. Book the Ocean Prelude, “a full-body treatment that incorporates elements from the sea and takes place in an airy room with a bronze-cast bathtub.”

Find Peace Through Meditation

A little peaceful reflection can be a great way to recharge. You could listen to a meditation podcast in the comfort and privacy of your own apartment, or you could try one of LA’s many meditation spas. Some of the best places to mediate in LA include:

Learn Something New

Fill in the blank: “I have always wanted to learn how to….” Whatever you fill that blank with, there is a class in or around LA to help you learn. Whether you want to learn how to sew, surf, write a book, train a dog, code, start a podcast, or build a business, you are in a city full of resources. Step out of your comfort zone and take a class in something new, or attend a workshop to learn more about a particular skill. Do this for you.

Bottom Line

Los Angeles is home to 3.8 million people. And while this makes it easy to make new friends, network, and build a community, it can also be a little overwhelming. It can be easy to get caught up in all of the things you can do for other people and forget to take care of yourself. Another thing you can do for yourself is rent a luxury apartment that feels like home. Take a virtual tour of NMS Overland and take a big step toward doing something nice for yourself.
